About
On December 14, 1936 the Cape Cod Standard Times announced the first annual Neediest Families Fund “to help at least 10 deserving families on the Cape”. (Read the first article here). The fund’s first mission was simple: to provide the residents of Cape Cod with financial assistance for absolute necessities such as housing, food, medical treatment, and heat when they fall on tough times. Along the way, the Needy Fund became a household name with everyone remembering the tagline: Neighbors helping Neighbors – that’s who we are!
After a years-long and thorough process, the Board of Directors voted to change the organization’s name to The Cape Cod Times Neighbors Fund, rolling out the new name in 2024. (Read the press release here). While our name has changed, our mission hasn’t. Today, just as in 1936, funds are carefully expended for a range of basic human needs for residents of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket in their time of need.
The Cape Cod Times Neighbors Fund is here to help families and individuals through cancer, car accidents, family deaths, job loss, temporary and permanent disabilities, serious childhood illnesses, fire, spousal abandonment and many other urgent situations all year long.
The Cape Cod Times Neighbors Fund is a community partner. Sometimes, the crisis is too big for one agency to handle. We network and partner with many local agencies to get people through the toughest of times.
